Rates for tippers have fallen so low that it has become impossible to put a roadworthy truck on the road and operate it without cutting corners. There have now been at least 30 deaths involving tippers over the last 10 years with five just last year. We need the government to take action by developing a new code of practice and making it mandatory. The VTU is organising a rally on Monday to draw public attention to the urgent need for strong government intervention, and your attendance is vital to that effort.

VTU AGM 12:30 15th September 2024 Footscray Park Bowels Club   The VTU will be holding its annual general meeting at the Footscray Park bowls club on Sunday the 15th of September at 12:30.   Any tipper owner drivers with an interest in the VTU and the state of the industry are encouraged to attend. We are keen on discussing the work the VTU has been doing to lift rates in the industry and we’re open to ideas from owner drivers about what action we can take to lift rates on all jobs.   The event will be fully catered by Jim’s Spit Roasts, so you need to RSVP to give us an idea about how much food to organise.     Remember no one person can fix the industry all by themselves, we all need to contribute if we want to see things get better.   Looking forward to seeing you on the 15th of September.   Luke McCrone Secretary Victorian Tippers United
